Alice grew up in Portland, Oregon and attended Reed College before moving to California where she received a Master’s degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley. She worked as a Medical Caseworker at UC Hospital in San Francisco, teaching the house staff the importance of social and emotional issues in understanding and treating patients. She feels that this training and experience gave her an edge in drawing the characters in her book.
After marrying a physician, she and her husband raised three children in the San Fernando Valley. During this time she worked part time as a travel consultant, with a special interest in packaging and escorting groups to exotic foreign destinations. The adventures of these trips were documented on film and shown at schools, clubs, and private gathering for entertainment and educational purposes.
An active member of in writing workshops, she also regularly attends conferences and meetings which educate writers about the business of publishing their work. Before publishing her memoir, Becoming Alice, she had been published in ONTHEBUS and the Los Angeles Times.
